“Never under estimate what people can do. This is my biggest learning from training.”
Lisa Miller’s dream of creating her own business while supporting clients to live their dreams and reach their goals has now become a reality.
For many years, Lisa shared her own experiences as a parent of two daughters with disability to empower others, but knew that in an ever-changing world she needed to couple her own knowledge with current sector information.
Lisa enrolled into a Certificate IV in Disability with genU Training in Geelong, and her studies gave her the confidence to launch a community respite carer service called Heart 2 Heart and create a framework of tailored programs and experiences for young people with disability.
Each decision she made while establishing her new business came from her passion for enriching the lives of others.
“Our company name is important to us as we wanted to provide a service that comes from our heart to your heart,” Lisa said.
“We wanted to facilitate quality care for individuals and their families within the community.”
Lisa’s business website and client handbook provide prospective clients with a snapshot of what Heart 2 Heart has to offer.
“My business information has been built from all that I learnt while undertaking my qualification,” she said.
Since commencing her business, Lisa has employed other genU Training graduates from Certificate IV in Disability, as she knows they have been immersed into the sector through quality training practices based on the empowerment of others and delivered by trainers who have current industry knowledge and experience.
Lisa said she was inspired to make a difference in the lives of people with disability and was continually adding to the experiences she offers her clients.
Skill building is the central focus of all that Lisa promotes, for both her clients and for herself. “As an essential layer to support what I live and breathe,” Lisa said.
“Never underestimate what people can do. This is my biggest learning from training.”
